How to Open a Revolut Business Account for an Estonian Company
Opening a business account is one of the first practical steps after setting up an Estonian OÜ. Revolut Business can be a useful option for companies that work across borders, but approval is not automatic: Revolut checks both the company and the people who own or manage it.
Quick answer: an Estonian company may apply if it is fully incorporated, active, registered in a supported jurisdiction and operates in an accepted sector. The applicant must also meet Revolut’s current residence and identity-verification rules. An Estonian e-Residency card is a digital identity document; it does not by itself establish residence in the EEA or make an otherwise ineligible applicant eligible.
We may receive a referral commission if you apply through our partner link. This does not change Revolut’s eligibility criteria, review process or pricing.
1. Check eligibility before starting
First confirm that your company is fully registered and active in the Estonian Business Register. Revolut asks for company details such as its registered name, legal form, registration address, incorporation date and registry number. It may compare the information in your application with official registry records.
Revolut also applies personal eligibility checks. Its current guidance lists a supported country of residence for the person applying, alongside requirements for the company’s country and legal form. Rules can vary by region and can change, so check the current Revolut Business eligibility information before applying. If you are an e-resident living outside the supported countries, do not assume that the Estonian company or e-Residency card overrides this requirement.
Your business activity must be lawful, clear and supported by Revolut. Review the list of supported and restricted business activities. If your company has several activities, explain what it actually sells, who its customers are and where it operates.
2. Prepare the documents Revolut may request
Prepare readable, current documents before opening the application. The exact checklist appears in your application and can differ depending on the company and its ownership structure. Revolut may ask for:
- Company registration details and incorporation documents, such as the certificate of incorporation or articles of association.
- Identity verification for the applicant, directors and relevant beneficial owners.
- A document showing the company’s directors and shareholders, including people who own more than 25% where requested.
- Evidence of the company’s operating address.
- Evidence that explains the business activity, such as a working website, customer or supplier contract, invoice, or business plan.
Use consistent names and addresses across the application and supporting documents. If a document is not in a language Revolut accepts, follow the instructions shown in the application about translation or certification. See Revolut’s document guidance for business onboarding.
3. Submit the application
Start from the official Revolut Business application. Enter the company’s legal details exactly as they appear in the Estonian register. Provide a specific description of the business rather than a broad label such as “consulting”. For example, describe the service, target customers, countries served and how the company earns revenue.
During onboarding, Revolut may ask for information about ownership, directors, expected account use, source of funds and transaction volumes. Answer fully and consistently. If the company is newly formed and has no trading history yet, explain that clearly and provide the documents that are available, such as a business plan, website, signed contract or supplier quote.
4. Respond promptly to verification requests
Submitting the form does not guarantee approval or a fixed decision time. The compliance team may request extra information or documents. Check the app and email regularly, submit complete files, and make sure the answers match the company’s public records. Revolut’s business incorporation verification guide explains the company details it may check.
If an application is declined, read the reason in the app and use the stated review or support route. Avoid submitting repeated applications with different company descriptions or addresses; inconsistent information can make verification harder.
5. Review the plan and account terms
Compare the current plans, transfer allowances, currency exchange limits, card costs and any additional fees against how your company actually operates. Prices and included services can change, so consult the official Revolut Business plans and pricing page before choosing. A low monthly fee is only one part of the cost: consider the payment volume, currencies, team access and support you need.
Revolut Business is a financial account subject to onboarding and ongoing checks, not a promise that every service will be available to every company. Keep invoices, contracts and accounting records organised, and make sure account activity reflects the business information you submitted.
Is Revolut right for every Estonian company?
It may suit an OÜ that needs online access, card payments and multi-currency tools, provided the company and applicant meet the current criteria. It may not be available to every non-resident founder, and some businesses may prefer a different provider or keep more than one account for operational continuity.
Compare Revolut with other options in our guide to business banking solutions for Estonian companies. The right choice depends on the founder’s residence, the company’s activities, where its customers are and the services it needs.
Frequently asked questions
Can an Estonian OÜ apply for Revolut Business?
An Estonian company can apply if it meets Revolut’s current country, legal-form, company-status and business-activity requirements. The application is reviewed individually.
Does e-Residency count as residence for Revolut?
No. e-Residency provides a digital identity for using Estonian e-services. It is not a residence permit and does not replace Revolut’s personal residence requirements.
What documents should I have ready?
Have company registration details, incorporation documents, identity documents for relevant people, ownership information, proof of operating address and evidence explaining the business activity ready. Revolut will show the specific requirements in the application.
How long does approval take?
Timing varies with the case and any additional checks. Follow the status in the app and respond promptly if Revolut requests further information.
